H2Oh! You Are Living Water!

On the last day of the great feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed: "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the scripture has said: 'Out of his heart shall flow rives of living water'." --John 7:37-38

Why water? Because it is the difference between life and death, literally and figuratively. We cannot survive without it. But do we use it to quench our own thirst or are we the conduit that also quenches the thirst of others?

Servanthood is simple, really--a state of grace-filled response to all that was sacrificed for our sake. One definition is found in Basin Theology: After condemning Christ, Pilate called for a basin and washed his hands of any guilt. When Jesus called for a basin, it was to wash His disciples' feet.

Which basin do you call for?

H2Oh! Back to School!

Saturday, August 6th

10:30-12:30

It was such fun last year, that we are doing it again--free backpacks and grade-appropriate school supplies for the first 240 elementary-aged children (must be present), with a hot dog lunch served from 11:00-12:00! Additionally, although their lists are a little less specific, we will have some supplies for middle-school and high-school students. And, it was such a hit in 2010, we are repeating the door prize drawings, too.

New this year: jeans!

As a congregation, we are collecting reams of computer paper, 12-packs of #2 pencils, full-sized boxes of Kleenex (name brand on the school list) and/or new or gently-used jeans sizes 4T through 20. Receptacles will be in the Narthex, Fellowship Hall and by the Big Kitchen from Sunday, June 19th, through Sunday, July 10th, for your donations.

Anyone involved last year can tell you what a good day it was. Please look for the bulletin inserts on Sundays, July 17th, 24th, and 31st, to sign up for specific responsibilities for this all-church Outreach event on August 6th. You will be glad you did!

If you have any questions or would like to help, please contact Debbie Keith in the church office. Thanks!
